Wedding Registry Protocol for eloping?

There's no law that says you can't register for gifts just because you're eloping. Just because you want a private wedding doesn't mean you don't need household items, right? If there are things you do need, go ahead and register and have your parents inform anyone who asks about your registry. Or if you prefer not to register, then those who want to send you a gift will just send checks and you can buy what you need yourself.
